The Mission Book
The greatest missionary according to the Bible was God Himself, through Christ. John 3:16 expresses it this way, "For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish, but have eternal life.” God took the initiative to plan for salvation of mankind even before man sinned in Genesis 3. This plan was before the foundations of the earth were laid. God himself presented the good news, “The Gospel” in Genesis 3:15. The Bible is all about how God unfolds His mission to bring salvation to the world.
I grew up with this saying, “A church without missions is a church without a mission.” The Lord has been bringing Northeast along in our mission awareness and involvement. He has placed the church building in a community surrounded by homes with people who have the need for Him. Some at Northeast have taken the initiative to reach out to them.
The Lord has blessed us with the ability send our own people on mission to Africa in February. There was a need to raise $8,000 to help with the mission on the ground in Africa, and at last count we have raised $9,147. This group will be sharing the Gospel story with African people who need to hear the message of the Bible. The Africa Mission team will be sharing this Sunday morning, January 5th.
As a church the Lord has helped us be able to collect $2,414.44 for our SBC foreign missionaries through the Lottie Moon Christmas offering. I’m reminded of what Jesus told his disciples in Matthew 24:14, “This gospel of the kingdom shall be preached in the whole world as a testimony to all the nations, and then the end will come.” Our support helps to reach people groups around the world that still haven’t heard.
God has given each one of us a mission, planted us and equipped us to do that mission. Keep being the missionary you are to be. I pray that the LORD will help us become even more mission minded in 2020.
“If the Bible is a missionary book, the people of the Book are charged with being missionary people.”
Keep on Keeping on!
