Cause for Thanks

“If we pause to think, we’ll have cause to thank!” When I heard this quote it really hit me that I get so busy, even with ministry, that I overlook that which I should be thankful for. That neglect lead to overlooking those I am thankful towards. Paul reminds us that we should always live a life of thanksgiving. In 1 Thessalonians 5:18 it says, “…in everything give thanks; for this God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.”

I am thankful for those who volunteer to take up responsibilities around the church which enable the church to function; those who teach Sundays and throughout the week, ministering to children, youth and adults; those who serve in the nursery so others can be ministered to; those who pick weeds and do the yard work (mowing); those who pick up trash and straighten up around the church; those who decorate and help to make this big building homey; those who greet and hand out bulletins; those who help visit the shut-ins and those in the hospitals and nursing homes; those who help lead us to the throne of Christ in worship; those who are prayer warriors, seeking God’s will to be done in others; those who watch out as protectors of the fellowship and there are so many more who need to be thanked.

I know the reason these do what they do, do it as service to Christ and love for the church. It is so easy to just expect things to be always the way they are, and that leads me to become too comfortable. Neglect sets in thus setting the stage for apathy. As a follower of Christ apathy should not be a part of my life. “The highest gift should awaken man’s deepest gratitude.” In my life, gratitude shouldn’t be an occasional occurrence but a continual attitude.

Thanksgiving will be part of the worship that takes place in heaven and lasts for eternity. In Revelation 4:9 we are reminded of this, “…the living creatures give glory and honor and thanks to Him (Christ), to Him who lives forever and ever”. I should be practicing this form of worship to Christ the King while I’m still here on this earth.

God Bless and Keep You!

Brother Joey
