Slow Growth

Slow Growth

“A watched pot never boils.” I used to wonder what people meant by that statement. We would like to see many things take place A.S.A.P. Much of the time that thinking makes its way into Church life. We would like to see super growth, preferably now! We must keep in mind the church is Christ’s, not ours. Remember the church is made up of people, specifically people whom God is working on and working through.

The church is made up of people of different ages and stages of spiritual growth. John writes concerning these stages of spiritual growth in 1John 2:12-14. He says, “I am writing to you, little children, because your sins have been forgiven you for His name’s sake. 13 I am writing to you, father, because you know Him who has been from the beginning. I am writing to you, young men, because you have overcome the evil one. I have written to you, children, because you know the Father. 14 I have written to you, fathers, because you know Him who has been from the beginning. I have written to you, young men, because you are strong, and the word of God abides in you, and you have overcome the evil one.”

We have much to celebrate here at Northeast. It is quite evident that God has been working and is continuing to work. We see the growth taking place, though to some it may not be fast enough. We have seen a few of our own grow from being children in faith to go to the front lines to be missionaries. Keep in mind Jennifer Umland, Kimberly Leonard and Micaela Conway. As a church body we are to grow them up to send them out. There is much more I could say here to bring even more awareness of the workings of Christ in our fellowship, but space is limited in this particular article.

The fact is we must be patient with those who are coming along in their walk with Christ. And keep in mind not everyone who is young in their faith, or even a babe in Christ is in the early stages of humanity. Some may be babes and be in their latter years. The fact is that Christ is working, and “bearing with one another” has been directed to all. We have also been directed to pray for one another. Pray for those who are stepping forward to dedicate themselves to a deeper discipline in Christ through Bible study, prayer, ministering to the body of Northeast. Pray for our children and youth who are committing God’s word to memorization, for they will be the strong “young men” on the front line in which “the Word of God” abides greatly. I pray that Christ will keep His perspective of timing ever in mind.

2 Peter 3:18
