What a wonderful day to be in the House of the Lord. It was a glorious Sunday worship here at Northeast. I stand amazed in the presence of amazing love.
Love. That was our theme for Advent this week. Pastor Joey took us to 1 John, 4:7 and following. We are commanded to love. John puts it very simply and straightforward: If God loves us, then we ought to love one another. It’s a simple “if/then” statement: If God loves us, then we must love others. Because of God’s love we live in Him and He lives in us, through the Holy Spirit. This is all made possible through faith. The God who made the Heavens and the Earth; This same God of the Universe, desires to live in us. He allows us to be convicted of sin, which separates us from Him, so we can repent, turn to Him and allow Him to live in us. God provided the way for us, through His love for us, by sending His Son, Jesus. Because of Jesus’ love for mankind, He, the Son of God, came into the word to save us by dying for us. I love the words of this song, and it’s fitting here: “My hope is built on nothing less than Jesus’ blood and righteousness. Because of His love, we have an eternal future. People say, “I don’t know what the future holds.” If Jesus is in you, you have confidence that your future includes an eternity with Him. He took your sin to the cross and took care of it. His love is perfected in us when He comes to live inside of us. With this we have a new freedom. Sin no longer enslaves us. Have you experienced His freedom? Are you willing to love others because he has loved you?
