It is interesting that in the United States we celebrate a day we call thanksgiving. Why do we make a deliberate attempt to show a concerted effort to be thankful? This is most likely due to the fact that we are human, and prone to overlook the most basic of necessities. In 1 Thessalonians 5:18 we are admonished as Christians, “in everything give thanks”. We set ourselves as an example for the lives around us. When we are thankful to the Lord, and the watching world see our thankfulness, they will have to take notice.
The rest of this verse says “in everything give thanks; for this is Gods will for you in Christ Jesus.” Giving thanks points to the Lord who protects and provides, and reminds us that every good and perfect gift comes from the Lord. Truly giving thanks does away with the natural impulse to be self-reliant, self-absorbed, self-serving, as well as many other forms of self that sets itself up against God. God’s will for you and I is to be right in the center of His will.
What about you? Do you know that you are right in the center of His will? Does thanksgiving exude from your heart?
