50th Anniversary

What a wonderful day to be in the House of the Lord. It was a glorious Sunday worship here at Northeast…well, actually it was good to be outside the House of the Lord this last Sunday.

Picture it: 1962, a vision given to First Baptist Church to grow by starting a new congregation. In a little store front on 7th Street, just north of Green Street, the vision turned into action when Seventh Street Baptist Chapel opened its doors. A few years later, what is now considered our “old building” was built. On August 13, 1965, Northeast Baptist Church was officially recognized as a Southern Baptist Church. We have gone through many growth spurts through these 50 years, but one thing has remained the same…we are family. We have been blessed with many wonderful pastors throughout the years. One of our first pastors, Loie Allen, was on mission trip to India when God called him home. We had the opportunity Sunday to listen to Pastor Randy Shipman, First Baptist, Clinton, MO, who shared a few words of remembrance, and Pastor Aubrey Burke, former pastor, NEB, retired, who shared a few memories and words on encouragement. Finally, our current pastor, Pastor Joey Conway, shared words of commitment and dedication. After our service, we celebrated with an old fashioned dinner on the grounds, followed by fellowship with each other, as several former members that have moved away came back to help us celebrate this wonderful milestone. I cannot wait to see what God has in store for the next 50 years.
