Many Convincing Proofs

What a wonderful day to be in the House of the Lord. It was a glorious Sunday worship here at Northeast. Ever consider how God is capable of taking care of everything? Well, for one, He’s GOD! Love this old song, Consider the lilies, they don’t toil or spin, and there’s not a king with more splendor than them. Consider the sparrow, they don’t plant or sow, but they’re fed by the Master who watches them grow. We have a Heavenly Father above with eyes full of mercy and a heart full of love. Yes, He takes care of everything, and I think I’m doing good trying to multitask and do two things at once!

Our message this week was a continuation of Luke. We picked up where we left off last week – Jesus had just vanished in front of the followers at Cleopas’ house and they rushed back to Jerusalem. These two believers were telling the disciples what had happened, and suddenly Jesus appears among them! They thought it was a ghost, but He reassures them He was alive, just as He said He would be. Then He asks if they have anything to eat…Fully God, Fully Man. While eating with them, Jesus reminds them that this is what He told them would occur: “This is what I told you while I was still with you: Everything must be fulfilled that is written about me in the Law of Moses, the Prophets, and The Psalms.” He must have been thinking, “What were you doing all the time I was telling you this? Were you listening? Didn’t you pay attention?” He reminded them of the Old Testament scripture: “This is what is written: The Messiah would suffer and rise from the dead…” He goes on to remind them that He was sending something to them (The Holy Spirit) just as the Father had promised (John 14:26). Shortly after this, Jesus leads the disciples out of Jerusalem and blesses them. While He was blessing them, God took Him and He ascended into Heaven, where He is today. Hopefully we aren’t as dull of hearing and understanding as the disciples were. Hopefully we learn from history, because if we don’t, you know how the quote ends – we are destined to repeat it. As Christians, if we don’t listen and follow God, like the Israelites of this time, we will fail. Don’t wait until it’s too late.
