May is a month of celebrating accomplishments. We acknowledge the hard work of those graduating from high school, college and other educational pursuits. This celebration is mixed with excitement and uncertainty with the beginning of a new chapter in life. With each accomplishment, one should remember the Lord and His grace. The same Lord we sought for help and guidance in the process, is the same Lord who has brought us through. Scripture admonishes us “not to lean on our own understanding, but to acknowledge the Lord, Jesus Christ, in all of our ways.” As we acknowledge Him in all He has guided us through, He straightens the paths before us.
No doubt we have had others around us who have been used by the Lord to provide guidance and insight. For many the greatest influence to know the Lord has been our mothers. In May, we also acknowledge the efforts of mothers who have paved the way for many of our lives. It is next to impossible to know the sacrifice, love and effort extended in our upbringing by our mothers until we have our own children.
It has been said, “Being a good parent means you know when to hug, when to holler and when to hogtie.” Such knowledge to raise up a child comes from the Lord. He is the perfect parent, and any good parent realizes that personal efforts are lacking without God’s help.
If you are still blessed to have your mother in your life, let her know how the Lord has used her to bless your life.
