Fulfiled in Your Hearing

What a wonderful day to be in the House of the Lord.  It was a glorious Sunday worship here at Northeast. What can wash away my sins?  Nothing but the blood of Jesus!  Oh how thankful we should be for that thought!

Have you ever moved away from home, say, to go to college or for a job, only to return years later for a visit, and run into an old acquaintance? Maybe you had a particular reputation…maybe a rebel, maybe the athlete, or maybe the brain when you were in school.  What will these old friends think of you?  Pastor taught from Luke 4:14-30 today.  Here we see Jesus going from Galilee, back to Nazareth, His home town.  He walks into the synagogue, opens the scroll, and begins to read.  When He is finished, He said, “The scriptures are fulfilled today.”  People in the synagogue recognized Him, and began asking, “Isn’t He Joseph’s son?” He speaks to them, telling them they will ask Him to do what He has done elsewhere, but that a prophet is not accepted in his own country.  In other words, I would do what I have done elsewhere, but you won’t believe it.  He tells them to look to Elijah – he was sent to other countries to minister to people, rather than in his own land. With this, these people who just moments earlier were speaking kindly of Him, were now angered to the point of rage, taking Him outside of town, ready to throw Him off a cliff!  Jesus walks right through the crowd, escaping, and goes on His way.  Jesus was the hope to many.  He came not only for the Jew, but for the Gentile alike.  These people did not want to hear that message though.  Are you ready for His message of salvation?  He’s right there waiting.
