Fulfilling All

News Release 2-26-17

What a wonderful day to be in the House of the Lord. It was a glorious Sunday worship here at Northeast. We were blessed with the song “Holy Spirit, you are welcomed here; come flood this place and fill the atmosphere. Your Glory, Lord is what our hearts long for, to be overcome by your presence Lord.” Come be among us, Lord, is our prayer.

Our theme was “Fulfilling All.” Jesus did just that…He came to fulfill all scripture, all God’s plan. Looking at Luke 3:21-38, we see Jesus is baptized, not because He had to, but because He chose to, to follow the will of His Father. He is our example. We are baptized as an outward sign of the forgiveness of our sins, an exchange of His blood for our sins. He did this even though He hadn’t sinned. The Jews of that time practiced ceremonial cleansings, but that was not at all what this was about, it was about obedience. To be baptized in the Jordan River required leaving His home and making a journey to get there. When He came up out of the waters, God said, “This is my Son, in whom I am well pleased.” In Matthew 3 we see Jesus comes to John the Baptist, asking to be baptized. John balks, saying, “I should be baptized by you, not the other way.” (John knows his sinfulness compared to Jesus’ perfection.) Jesus asks John to permit it this one time, in order to fulfill righteousness. In perfect obedience, Jesus testifies to submission to God in all things: He was our example. Simply put, it was all part of God’s will; Jesus was part of a great exchange; exchanging His life for our sins, as expressed in 2 Cor. 5:21: If this is what God requires, I will do what He commands for all mankind. Have you participated in this exchange? Jesus willingly gave His life for your sins.
