Newness of Life
What a wonderful day to be in the House of the Lord. It was a glorious Sunday worship here at Northeast. Our special music was a beautiful sign interpretation of “All is Well.” The words are so beautiful…All is well…Christ has come, Emmanuel…All is well. Emmanuel, “God with us.” What a comforting thought.
Our sermon theme was Newness of Life. Very appropriate that today was 1-1-17. The first day of the new year, a time for a fresh start. We often long for new things – sometimes even a new start in life. A refreshing for our souls. The new year is the perfect opportunity for the newness of life. In Romans 6:1-7, Paul asks us in order to see God’s grace more, should we continue to sin? No, no, no! This is not at all what Paul means. Once we come to Christ we are to be dead to sin. In fact, sin should be the farthest thing from our mind…but, being that we have been given a free will, our human nature takes over. Thankfully our sins are buried once we are baptized. As we are raised from the waters we are raised in a newness of life in His likeness. Because of this we are no longer slaves to the sin that once held us in its death grip. We are free to live in God’s grace. He wants us to live in this newness of life. Are you living in this freedom? You don’t have to be a slave to sin any longer. Ask for the free gift of salvation that Jesus has waiting just for you.
