What a wonderful day to be in the House of the Lord.  It was a glorious Sunday of worship here at Northeast.  Our theme throughout church today was “Joy”.  The choir started us with the song, “Unspeakable joy, an overflowing well, no tongue can tell. Joy rises in my soul, never lets me go.”  These words were penned by Chris Tomlin.  Happiness is fleeting, but joy is a choice that is lasting.

This Advent Sunday was Joy. The greatest news to mankind was the most joyous news of Jesus’ birth.  The Gospel of Luke brings this story to life for us.  Outside of Mary and Joseph, some of the first people to hear the message of the Good News were the shepherds.  Put yourself in their place: sitting out on a hill, in the dark, all by themselves. There appears an angel out of nowhere.  Imagine their fear! This angel is bringing them the news that Jesus was born in Bethlehem.  He told the shepherds where and how to find Him. Now, not only was there one angel, but suddenly there appeared a “multitude” of angels. Just imagine thousands of angels appearing before these shepherds! So the shepherds go in search of Him, and find Him just as they were told.  They have come to worship Him. God brought His message of Jesus’ birth to the lowest of the low first, not the high and mighty officials:  Jesus came for all.  This was the child the Israelites had been told about; the Savior they had waited for for so long (Daniel 9:24). Good news for them, great news for all mankind (Galatians 4:4-5).  The message of the Gospel was sent for all, which includes you.  Have you heard the Good News?  Please let us share it with you.
