God Dwells In Us
I’m kind of starting at the end and going backwards this week. We closed our service with a beautiful hymn. The words are Here I am Lord; it is I Lord. I have heard you calling in the night. I will go Lord, if you’ll lead me. I will hold Your people in my heart. I am reminded of the passage in Isaiah 6:8: “Then I heard the voice of the Lord, saying, “Whom shall I send, and who will go for Us?” Then I said, “Here am I. Send me!” ” What an expression of love by the respondent: I will hold God’s people in my heart. This hymn was a fitting end to our service.
Pastor Joey has shared with us that God dwells in the heart of a Christian in the form of the Holy Spirit. With this being dwelling within us, we can love with a new kind of love; a love that only comes from the Father. Also, with the Holy Spirit in us we are part of something bigger. We are part of the church; we who are many are one body in Christ and individually members of one another. We grow in our worship, as part of the church body with other Christians. We can also share our faith and be the people God wants us to be. Being part of this church family also allows us to minister to each other.
When we experience the loss of a loved one, we often feel an emptiness, a hole that they left behind. Likewise, if we are not part of a local Body of Christ, known as the Church, there is also an emptiness, a void. Theologian Blaise Pascal said, “There is a God shaped vacuum in the heart of every man with cannot be filled by any created thing, but only by God, the creator, made known through Jesus.” This truth is still there for the believer. Life has taken on meaning and purpose never known before.
Have you realized that void? Do you need God to fill that empty space? He’s there, just waiting for you to ask him in. God is a gentleman; He will not come in until He is invited and asked to take up residency. He does not push or shove, nor does He tell you what you need to do. He just waits patiently for you to ask him to come. All you need to do is invite Him in the door to your heart.
