Oh Lord, you’re beautiful to me. Your face is all I seek. And when Your eyes are on this child, Your grace abounds in me. This was our call to worship this morning. Think about those words…Is His face what you seek? Are His eyes on you and does His grace abound in you?
God longs to dwell inside of you, to start, process, and complete a work in you. Remember God’s Holy Spirit is a being, not an “it.” He has human feelings and our actions affect Him. Just as we give Him joy we also grieve Him. Lies grieve God, but lying to the Holy Spirit is beyond disappointing to God. Look at Ananias and Sapphira in Acts 5:3. Their greediness and lying did not bode well for them.
Have you ever tried to help someone who needs help, but doesn’t want it? Boy, are they stubborn and resistant. Have you ever been stubborn and resist to God’s help? Where does that get you? Absolutely nowhere. Hopefully we learn from our mistakes and next time don’t grieve the Holy Spirit. God gives us guidance to protect and provide for us. Do we trust Him? Pastor Joey used the illustration of holding a pendulum on a rope (with a bowling ball attached), letting it go, and standing still, letting the ball swing back. With no propulsion, the pendulum will stop mid-air before hitting you. He used this as a show of trust in physics. God never fails us when we trust Him. God provides us with good things. Just as our earthly fathers give good things to their children, so does our Heavenly Father give us good things.
When the Holy Spirit comes into our lives, we are able to call God Daddy: Abba. We also have a hope the world does not have, and we have the ability to discern what is true from what is a lie. He is the seal of our salvation and the promise/pledge of our inheritance in Him. Years ago documents were secured with a seal that could not be broken. Such is the seal God has on our heart. Is His seal on you? It could be if you ask Him to put it there.
